The ideal person for rhinoplasty is a person that has a disproportionate or disfigured nose, but that maintains good health and mental faculties, and that has a realistic outlook on their results. When you research for a cosmetic surgeon he/she will show you before and after pictures of clients and discuss what’s possible with your Atlanta rhinoplasty surgery.

There are two typical procedures that a plastic surgeon can do on your nose.  The open rhinoplasty and the closed rhinoplasty.

The open rhinoplasty is where the surgeon makes a rather small inciston involves a small incision across the columella, in the spot between the nostrils.  Incisions inside the nose are also needed. This procedure is most used in more difficult surgeries.

The closed rhinoplasty is where the plastic surgeon makes the incision inside the nose only. The recovery is faster with much less swelling. The only downfall is the doctor may not be able to get similar changes as compared to the open rhinoplasty, due to not being able to see certain areas inside the nose.

Many surgeons will push for the open procedure because they can see more of the nose.  The outcome is more swelling and bruising, but if you follow instructions and elevate your head when you sleep for about a week after the surgery, the swelling will go away much faster.

In most cases, insurance will not cover your rhinoplasty surgery, but if your nose issue is causing breathing difficulties, or maybe you have a birth defect, you may be able to get it covered. The main questions you should ask your insurance company is:

Does your insurance policy cover the costs of the surgery, the anesthesia, revisions, and/or other related hospital costs? If so, will that increase your premiums? And will this create problems with future coverage issues?
